Compress PDF
Slim down PDFs without losing a pixel.
How this works: we strip metadata, remove embedded page thumbnails, and re-pack the PDF with object streams. Fully lossless — text stays searchable, images stay sharp. Expect 5–15% on real-world PDFs; already-optimised files may barely change. A lossy image-re-encode mode is planned for later.
How it works
- 1Drop your PDF
Anything up to 200 MB. Nothing leaves your browser.
- 2Compress
We strip metadata, drop thumbnails, and repack the file.
- 3See the savings
We show the before/after. If it didn't help, we'll say so.
FAQ
Is anything uploaded to your servers?
No. Files are processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged on our side.
So how does it actually shrink the file?
Three passes. First, strip standard metadata like Title, Author, Creator, and any embedded XMP block. Second, remove the tiny thumbnail previews PDFs sometimes embed. Third, re-pack the file using PDF object streams — a denser way of storing the same content. Every step is fully lossless.
How much will I save?
5–15% on most real-world PDFs. PDFs exported from Word, PowerPoint, or older tools tend to shrink the most. PDFs already optimised by a modern writer might only lose 1–2%, or grow a hair.
Why did my PDF get bigger?
Your file was already lean — there was nothing to strip, and our repack added a small header. When that happens we say so and suggest keeping the original. No harm done.
My scanned PDF barely shrank — why?
This tool is fully lossless, which means the images inside aren't re-encoded. A scan is basically a bundle of already-compressed JPEGs, so there's not much left to take out. An aggressive image-re-encoding mode is coming.
Will text, forms, and annotations survive?
Yes. Searchable text, fonts, form fields, links, and annotations all come through exactly. Only metadata and thumbnails are touched.
